The Traditional End-of-Year Survey, Year 16

This survey has been going on since 2002, when a friend found it somewhere and posted it on her LiveJournal. A bunch of us tagged along, but I think only I remained at this point, as the two friends who stuck along ended up not hanging with as many foreigners in their latter years.

1. What did you do in 2017 that you'd never done before?
Nothing worth mentioning.

Oh, wait. I started using emoji, though I swore that I never would.

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No, see March 01st. I wanted to have steady work all year long and go to Greece again. Did not happen.

My only resolution is the above, again. If I could do some home repairs, I'll be happy, too.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
A bunch o' people online.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
One online friend, whose passing was a shock. She was only 33. 🙁

5. What countries did you visit?
None.

6. What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017?
Everything. I want it all!

7. What dates from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
March 01st - I was labelled with something I didn't have at all, which led to a bunch of complications. One of the biggest mistakes of my entire life.

May 27th - I rekindled my relationship with a dear friend.

August 07th - I had the courage to quit something that was a huge problem (Not drugs, don't worry! Never did drugs!).

August 23rd - Met the person who overruled the idiotic March 01st assessment.

October 14th - I don't want to remember it, but I do. A horrible day, likely the worst overall.

November 05th - I became able to write again.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I can write again and I appreciate my talent to churn out a good thing in a matter of, well, minutes.

9. What was your biggest failure?
See March 01st.

10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Yes, induced by somebody else's horrible misjudgment.

11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
- I got a box of sweets, tea, salep and a letter from Selma. I still didn't read the letter, because 2017.

- I got a plastic Darth Vader tumbler filled with candy and Star Wars stickers, and a Minnie Mouse T-shirt from Marija and Duki from my birthday.

- I got a sweater from my aunt and she's making me a quite extravagant scarf.

- I got a letter from Abby. I still didn't read the letter, because 2017.

- I do intend to read both of these until the end of the year.

- I got the Black Knights' Excalibur CD from Shalhevet. I never expected that and it changed the way I see her. I still didn't listen to it, because 2017.

- I got 50 Swiss Francs from aunt Svetlana, as well as a pair of slippers that are too small and a St. Bernard plush on keychain.

- I got the book "The Tao of Pooh" from Jo. Slowly, slowly reading it, it's next to my bed.

- I got a Logray the Ewok TsumTsum and a Christmas card from Valerie.

- A new wallet from my mother, as an early New Year's gift.

- A huge box from Esther should be on its way, but knowing how slow mail is during this time of the year, I kind of don't expect it before 2018.

Yes, I remember it all.

But most importantly, a bunch of people bought me time when I was at my worst ever and that matters most.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My friends, they are amazing! My mom, too!

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
See March 01st.

This guy I made a mistake of meeting up with in September. He's most certainly a psychopath.

At the very end of the year, this neighbour didn't act like a human being to me.

The usual person was being herself. Remind me to break into the air base and send a missile at her the next time I'm 300-ish km close to her home.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Only the basic things. I had a spending spell in March and April when I had some extra and I got a couple of skater dresses and a yellow high-wasted shorts I never put on, a bunch of chokers, a T-shirt that's the same one I ripped in 2015 and supplies for jewelry making. I don't understand the latter thing and I'm currently trying to sell a whole bag of it for roughly $10.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The moment I sat down and started writing again. Also, The Last Jedi.

16. What song will always remind you of 2017?
It was mostly a silent year. No music. Two new albums I should have listened...I haven't yet. This one song, I listened to it once. Unlike the most of my friends and acquaintances, I actually liked it. I need to play it to my parrot, it's his kind of stuff. 🙂

Oh, wait, there is Francesco Gabbani's "Occidentali's Karma", too. What a masterpiece!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) Happier or sadder? Sadder. Slowly getting happier. Slowly.
b) Fatter or skinnier? Skinnier. I don't even have traces of a traditional female tummy that I even had at my thinnest anymore.
c) Richer or poorer? Poorer, but I'm working on changing that.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Everything.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Nothing.

20. How do you plan to spend Christmas?
With mom. Maybe my aunt and my nephews.

21. Did you fall in love in 2017?
That would have been the last thing I needed.

22. How many one night stands?
0

23. What was your favourite TV program?
Oddbods and Texas Flip'n Move. O_O

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Probably the same person I hated at this time in 2015, since the narcissistic abuse cycle has started again. Hate is a strong word, though. I just...dislike her.

25. What was the best book you read?
I finished only one - "Dora and the Minotaur" by Dora Maar, adapted by Slavenka Drakulić.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery of the year?
I said it already, Francesco Gabbani...though I technically discovered him in 2016 and then forgot.

27. What did you want and get?
The proof that I had been right all along and that the other person was misjudging me.

28. What did you want and not get?
Everything else.

29. What was your favourite film of this year?
I'm yet to see my only film of this year, The Last Jedi.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 34, the usual couple visited us and brought the usual cake, one of my besties did a story commenting marathon for me.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Pretty much anything good.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2017?
Mostly "whatever was on one of the two chairs next to the closet".

33. What kept you sane?
My friends. My mother.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Same as usual...plus Pogo, the blue Oddbod. 😛 He is my new boyfriend.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Loss of living standard in this country, and also what Trump just did. Eeek.

36. Who do you miss?
I sort of miss Maja.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
There's a bunch of people on this forum I frequent. One girl, I met. One, I grew kind of close to.

38. What was the best thing you ate?
Napoli's "Napoletana" pizza, which is super-hot and I've never been into that kind of stuff before.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2017?
Always seek a second opinion. ALWAYS. No matter what.
