Push-Button World

Stacy has a push-button pencil case,
But she won't let me touch it.
It's called Fruity Poppets.
There are six coloured buttons,
But she just tells me to go away.

Hard to be a virtuvian girl,
A virtuvian girl in a push-button world,
You turn left and right while they speed,
And then they all point and laugh.

Lucia has a perfect system set up,
But she thinks that I would ruin it.
It's called, well, whatever it's called.
There are nine well-placed puppets,
But she just tells me to go away.

Hard to be a virtuvian girl,
A virtuvian girl in a virtual world,
You jump up and down while they're still,
And then it comes, that ironic cough.

I see its reflection in the display cabinet,
Behind the cage, the curtain, outside my window,
A straight branch swings, like a reverse pendulum.
It's going up...if that's of any comfort.
A star visits the very fork of the three at dawn.

Good to be a virtuvian girl,
A virtuvian girl in a push-button world,
You turn left and right while they speed,
But they don't know more than to point and laugh...
...all the Stacys of this world.

Good to be a virtuvian girl,
A virtuvian girl in a virtual world,
You jump up and down while they're still,
But they don't know more than to let that ironic cough...
...all the Lucias of this world.
