The Traditional End-of-Year Survey, Year 15

This survey has been going on since 2002, when a friend found it somewhere and posted it on her LiveJournal. A bunch of us tagged along, but I think only I remained at this point, as the two friends who stuck along ended up not hanging with as many foreigners in their latter years.

1. What did you do in 2016 that you'd never done before?
- Attempted to hit back when a gigantic man assaulted me. Would not do that again.

- Wore a two-piece swimsuit as an adult. Would do that again, with enough sun block.

- Ate octopus, shrimp and real mousakka. Would do that every day.

- Rode a bicycle on the open road. Would do that every day.

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I had just one, to get to the first place I ever felt a connection to, the first place where I ever felt happy. I kept it, but that was not enough. A year should consist of a solid plan when one's a freelancer living with a pensioner in a crap country.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My first cousin passed away from years alcohol abuse, multiple organ failures and depression on September 07th.

5. What countries did you visit?
Greece and Slovenia, passing through Croatia and FYR Macedonia.

6. What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
Stability, courage, a constant source of income (like in 2015, but involving more work), no guilt, no fear, no depressive moods, no self-doubt.

7. What dates from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 09th - Blah.

August 20th - September 01st - LOVE.

December 19th - NOPE.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
See 2.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Trusting this one 40-something manchild and his gang of swindlers.

10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
I...had a cold in March. Turned out to be a very mild form of swine flu, or so I think.

A jellyfish stung me on August 22nd, but my pal had a remedy for that, so it passed after, like, ten minutes.

11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
- I got a large canister of olive oil and a small canister of kalamata olives in August. All natural, all from the heart.

- This family friend whom mom and I reunited with around the same time got me a nice backpack, three tiny braceletes and took us out.

- Selma sent me a pack of sweets, tea and salep for my birthday.

There was probably more.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My friends, they are amazing!

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Same as in 2015. I can't get rid of this person, no matter what I do.

Maja's, to a certain extent. But it was partly my fault.

Reconnect, revisit.

Don't trust the guy who changes programmers and designers more than he changes his underpants - and yeah, I believe he's very clean.
